"Ever sawed out a hole? And? Did it disappear?"
florschütz & döhnert investigate the mystery of holes. And they make holes. The more holes they make, the more - surprisingly - possibilities open up - like a door leading somewhere else. A magical theatrical piece that playfully engages with sensory illusions while sharpening the senses.

Since Melanie Florschütz and Michael Döhnert set out to develop their own theatrical language for young theatre audiences, Schaubude Berlin has accompanied them. The production "A Hole Is Usually Round" is poetic theatre - almost without words, with abundant sound and music. The production was revised in 2025 and expanded with an artistically integrated audio description. The two artists collaborated with students and educators from Marie-und-Hermann-Schmidt-Schule, Brandenburgische Schule für Blinde und Sehbehinderte, and blista, the national centre of expertise for people with blindness and visual impairment.

Accessibility

We offer blind and partially sighted people an audio version transmitted via headphones. The introductory tactile guidance begins at 9 a.m., meeting point in the foyer.

We offer a pick-up service for blind and partially sighted people from S-Bahn station or the "Greifswalder Straße" tram stop; additionally, Access Friends are on site to support visitors if needed.
