Chawwerusch is the professional theatre collective of the Southern Palatinate with its own venue, bringing history and stories to life. Most of their self-developed pieces are adaptable to different performance spaces. Chawwerusch Theatre also produces large-scale projects with amateur performers at a high artistic level. Expedition Chawwerusch is the theatre's young division, offering productions for youth and young adults alongside a comprehensive theatre education programme.
A contemporary Chawwerusch adaptation of Kleist's classic in a pure staging:
Three actors perform the comic yet profound story of Judge Adam's darkest day. He wakes with a headache, his wig has gone missing, and then he must navigate an extremely delicate legal case - all under the watchful eye of the city magistrate, who has arrived to test his competence.
For Widow Marthe, it is no better day. Until yesterday, her small world was in order: she lived with her already-engaged daughter in her own house, and her family heirloom, the jug, sat safely on the windowsill. But suddenly everything has gone awry: her daughter Eve was spotted late in the evening in the garden with her fiancé Ruprecht. Shortly after, the jug was broken - reason enough for Marthe to take her case to court. Old Judge Adam must set everything right: establish the true facts, provide compensation for the damage - and above all, restore the honour of his daughter Eve.
