What do a donkey with back problems, a hard-of-hearing dog, a nearsighted cat, and a fat rooster have in common? That's right - they're all facing the chopping block. They've worked their whole lives for humans, and how are they thanked? With an axe! So off they go to Bremen, where the sun always shines and life is free. These musical early retirees look to the future with optimism and can hardly believe their luck when they discover a lovely cottage by the roadside. Its inhabitants - a frightened band of robbers - are quickly sent fleeing by a terrifying song. And Bremen? Why go there when you've already found your best friends?

Philipp Löhle's animal world shines with onomatopoetic wit and fast-paced situational comedy. An optimistic plea for more compassion in a performance-driven society. And for animals that have more humanity than humans.
