LCB diplomatique
Literarisches Colloquium Berlin, Germany
The three protagonists of this evening could all be counted among the 'Nation of Strangers' - world citizens against their will. Author Juhasia Kaliada lives in exile in Vilnius, like so many Belarusian writers; Ukrainian journalist Oksana Pugachova was driven to Latvia by the war in eastern Ukraine; and Georgian poet Eka Kevanishvili, working as a journalist for Radio Free Europe in Tbilisi, faces mounting repression.
We asked each of them to photograph their immediate surroundings and write a short text to accompany it for our portal LCB diplomatique (www.lcb.de/en/diplomatique). These contributions, along with other texts, form the starting point for a conversation about how to preserve independence and integrity 'under pressure' in the current circumstances. Can exile become a source of strength?
A joint event with taz panterstiftung, which is inviting media professionals from Central and Eastern Europe to a workshop in Berlin in early July 2026.
