On the LCB lakeside stage, Navid Kermani presents his novel "Sommer 24" (Hanser, 2026) in conversation with Sasha Marianna Salzmann. What does it feel like when the familiar world falls apart, when what was normal yesterday no longer holds today? Kermani captures that moment across a single summer: a friend who had recently gone politically astray has taken his own life. Wars are drawing closer and public debates are growing shriller. His girlfriend considers the narrator a macho - but that is far from the worst accusation that shakes his self-image. "The novel repeats the simultaneity of the non-simultaneous across different levels of experience, repeatedly addressing the act of writing itself as a way of holding time in place.
