Adam Schaf is a deeply sad man. The fact that he sings cheerful songs is the best proof of his sadness - so Georg Kreisler describes his title character.

From Schaf's memories of his difficult journey out of war emerges a cynical reckoning with Germany of yesterday and today - though humor never abandons him. Like life itself, this theatrical evening is a true balancing act between collapse and hope, between plea and eulogy, or as the author himself says: "We are all afraid! But we live! Somehow!"

Berlin-based singer and actor Dennis Weissert explores in his interpretation of Kreisler's Singspiel our present-day relationship to the postwar era and draws parallels between two realities strongly marked by existential anxiety.

In doing so, he spans an arc from the German cabaret tradition to the glamour of American Broadway and catapults his audience into a bizarre in-between world.
