To weep - a question, an invitation, and a recommendation all at once. Barber's "Adagio for Strings" unfolds its slowly woven string lines with a breathtaking melancholy. For Elgar's Cello Concerto, the Bayer Philharmoniker are joined by Friedrich Thiele as soloist: he is principal cellist of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden and brings full virtuosity to the solo part.

The evening closes with Dvořák's Symphony No. 8 - conciliatory and uplifting, the perfect emotional counterweight to what came before. All the same: we carry on.
