Rossini in Wildbad: Occasione - Opportunity Makes Thieves 2
Königliches Kurtheater Bad Wildbad, Germany
The opera opens with a dramatic thunderstorm scene in an inn, reminiscent of the finale of Don Giovanni: Parmenione dines calmly while his anxious servant Martino suffers. Parmenione is a brilliant character who constantly disguises himself, lies, reinvents himself, manipulates and torments his servant. Seeking shelter from the rain, Alberto arrives on his way to meet his unknown bride. When Parmenione switches the traveler's suitcase with his own, an absurd story unfolds. Parmenione finds a photograph of a young woman and Alberto's passport, and decides to steal his identity. He sets out to find the supposed bride. But she has her own plans and has no intention of marrying any predetermined groom. Rossini's brilliant comedy about "alternative facts" was filmed in 2017 at the Kurtheater for NAXOS and is now being staged in a new cast. The conductor of the performance is once again music director Antonino Fogliani, whose spirited musical perfection matches this mad comedy of errors.
The purchase of the program booklet counts as admission to the opera introduction one hour before the start at the Forum König-Karls-Bad.
