Amigues Adios - Theater by Bishop Black — Ballhaus Naunynstraße, Berlin
Description was written before the event

In "Amigues Adios" by Bishop Black, five performers go in search of those who shaped queer Berlin over the years - and made the city a place to live beyond the conservative boundaries of sexual and racial identity. For those who came back then, Berlin was a kind of harbour: rents were low, where you came from mattered less than the here and now. Arriving in this country, anyone could reinvent themselves, and no one asked about the pain that lay beneath. Outdated roles could be shed, new ways of living together negotiated. There was resistance; precarity was part of the freedom; some broke under violence and cold. But for a moment in history - so unexpected given Germany's past - they made Berlin an open city.

Yet fear is rising again. The protagonists of "Amigues Adios" bow to the Black queer Berliners who had the courage back then to turn the city into a promise. In a surreal and burlesque dance through the ages, they draw strength from them to keep going - and celebrate to taste, once more, freedom from fear and self-determination.
