Oratorio Concert 2026 - Brahms: Violin Concerto in D major / Dvorak: Mass in D major
Rellinger Barockkirche, Rellingen (bei Hamburg), Germany
12 €
On Saturday, 12 September 2026, at 7 p.m., the annual oratorio concert takes place at the Rellinger Barockkirche. The programme pairs Johannes Brahms's Violin Concerto in D major with Antonín Dvořák's Mass in D major - two works by composers who shared a close personal friendship.
The Brahms concerto is among the most celebrated in the violin repertoire; Jonas Rölleke takes the solo part, accompanied by a selected ensemble of orchestral musicians. Dvořák's Mass is cast as a "Missa brevis" - compact enough to be performed within a church service. Dvořák sets the liturgical texts in his characteristic, song-like musical language: the music addresses God directly with gratitude and petition, while offering the listener comfort and a sense of shelter.
The choral part of the evening is performed by the Rellinger Kantorei.
