No one should die
l'arte del mondo
Yair Dalal - violin and oud
Werner Ehrhardt - conductor
The collaboration between l'arte del mondo and Israeli musician Yair Dalal has been a defining thread running through the ensemble's history since its founding in 2004. Yair Dalal is an Israeli Jew of Iraqi-Jewish descent, a committed peace activist and leader of his own ensemble Al Ol. His work toward reconciliation between Jews and Palestinians is reflected throughout his music, which fuses Jewish, Arabic and Western elements.
In their new joint project Hope, Werner Ehrhardt and Yair Dalal build a programme around Dalal's composition No one should die. The piece was written shortly before the Hamas attack on Israel on 7 October 2023 - with no inkling of the tragedy that would so abruptly shatter the hopes of many Israelis working toward peace. No one should die celebrates peace, honours life and rejects any justification for war and death.
