ZEITREISE - Baroque goes Pop
Frauenkirche, Dresden, Germany
Songs by Henry Purcell & The Beatles
Saxophone: Asya Fateyeva
lautten compagney BERLIN
Lute and direction: Wolfgang Katschner
Henry Purcell, The Beatles, and a saxophone? At first glance, a surprising combination. Yet lautten compagney BERLIN, together with saxophonist Asya Fateyeva, demonstrates how sonic worlds can connect across centuries. Purcell's baroque melodies, once the embodiment of English musical tradition, meet the inventiveness of The Beatles, whose songs shaped pop culture in the 20th century. The saxophone, invented in 1846, brings a new timbre to the historical instrumental palette and builds a bridge between these two worlds.
The result is a programme that transcends boundaries - between classical and popular music, between yesterday and today. Purcell plus The Beatles - that rocks!
