FreiKultur - Dirty Dancing

FreiKultur 2026 presents special film experiences in the courtyard of CD-Kaserne, supported by Sparkasse Celle - Gifhorn - Wolfsburg.

In the enchanting courtyard of Celler Kulturzentrums, the audience will enjoy classic films over eight evenings. Guests can settle on deckchairs, picnic benches, or their own picnic blankets and savour this special film experience.

Seventeen-year-old Frances "Baby" Houseman spends the summer with her family at a resort in the Catskill Mountains. There she meets the charismatic dance instructor Johnny Castle and discovers a world of music, dance, and passion previously unknown to her. When one of the dancers drops out, Baby steps in as Johnny's partner and begins secretly training with him. As they prepare for a big performance, a love story unfolds between them - one that challenges social boundaries and prejudices.

Guests are welcome to arrive early and settle in comfortably. The courtyard opens to the public 30 minutes before the start. Plenty of seating is available - deckchairs, picnic benches, and folding chairs. Picnic baskets with food are welcome. Beverages are provided on site, so please refrain from bringing your own. Staff from CD-Kaserne will remind guests of this during the event.
