LÉLÉ - by Sathyan Ramesh

A reading piece by Sathyan Ramesh with Julia Jäger and Matthias Habich
A man writes a letter of thanks. A woman replies. That is how it begins. "Lélé" is an invented correspondence between two people who could hardly be more different - in character or in life. An elderly widower thanks someone for the result of an online order: a custom-made dog collar with the embroidered name "Oskarla". Unexpectedly, a woman writes back. She is serving time in a correctional facility and made the collar herself - it is part of the product range of the website "Mit Haftung".
What starts as a formal exchange soon becomes something more. Two very singular characters develop a correspondence in which neither directly addresses their shared sense of lostness or their respective confinement - yet both make it felt throughout. They have much to give each other, right up until there is nothing left to lose.
"Lélé" was written literally to fit theatre and film stars Julia Jäger and Matthias Habich. Both have made their mark many times over: in classics such as Fritz Umgelter's "Die merkwürdige Lebensgeschichte des Friedrich Freiherr von der Trenck" and Detlev Buck's "Karniggels", on stages from Vienna to Leipzig, with Oscars for "Nowhere in Africa" and "Spielzeugland", and once even together in the television epic "Klemperer - Ein Leben in Deutschland". "Lélé" marks the first time Julia Jäger and Matthias Habich have shared a theatre stage.
