In Nesterval's productions, the audience follows individual characters through a multitude of scenes - much like moving through an elaborate film set, the storytelling winds across different narrative threads and spaces. Binge-watching meets live theater, up close.
The Vienna-based troupe makes their Berlin debut with Nestervals Eldorado, a site-specific work developed for Sophiensæle. The piece centers on the queer history of Berlin's Scheunenviertel neighborhood and the area around Sophiensæle during Nazi rule. Inspired by the biographies of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and trans people who were systematically persecuted and murdered, Nesterval weaves fiction and reality into a moving narrative.
A production by Nesterval in co-production with Sophiensæle. Based on a co-production with brut Wien. Supported by Kulturstiftung des Bundes, the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media, the Federal Ministry for Housing, Art, Culture, Media and Sport (BMWKMS), and the City of Vienna, as well as the Dr. Horst Rusch Foundation and the Between Bridges Foundation. Media partners: Missy Magazine, Siegessäule, taz, Yorck Kinogruppe.
