Fish Looking for a Bicycle
Theater Am Spalterhals, Barsinghausen, Germany
Their marriage is over, but neither Julia nor Thomas is keen on the single life. So they take the plunge and venture back into the dating world.
That this requires not just courage but also plenty of stamina, a high pain threshold, and a great deal of optimism becomes clear at the very first attempt. Carefully planned as a "safety net" for each other, Julia and Thomas arrange their dates at the same restaurant - with equally dire consequences for their prospective partners and for the audience's stomach muscles.
While Julia's self-absorbed date fails to spark even the faintest interest, Thomas's companion immediately launches into her unfulfilled desire for children and an impressive command of libido-boosting foods - sending the evening spectacularly off the rails and prompting both ex-spouses to make a run for it.
Subsequent attempts to navigate the maze of dating apps or the well-meaning matchmaking efforts of their neighbour fare no better: Julia and Thomas somehow always manage to cross paths at exactly the wrong moment, throwing each other's dates into chaos.
Peacefully splitting up and then staying friends turns out to be far harder than it sounds - though at least two people are less alone than one.
