As a child, Cheng Tsung-Lung, artistic director of Cloud Gate, was captivated by his mother's stories about a legendary street performer of the 1960s known as "Thirteen Tongues". Thirty years later, those memories became the source for this dance piece of the same name.

The score ranges widely - from Taiwanese folk songs and Taoist chants to electronica, framed by the sound of a single hand bell. On stage, projections of vivid colours and shapes layer over the action as the dancers gather, separate, and find each other again.

Through the interplay of past and present, the piece builds a portrait of street life in Taipei.
