The Traveller — Theater tri-bühne, Stuttgart
Description was written before the event

Discover a literary gem, uncovered in Germany only a few years ago, now dramatized on the stage of Theater tri-bühne. Ulrich A. Boschwitz wrote a remarkable novel at just 23 years old, in the shadow of Kristallnacht. His novel "Der Reisende" ("The Traveller"), written in 1938 and first published in German in 2017, depicts with an almost Kafkaesque humour how swiftly and without resistance a familiar world can become hostile:

Jewish travelling salesman Otto Silbermann wanders through Germany in the late 1930s, in the wake of the pogroms, a country radically transformed by Nazism and antisemitism. He spends his days on trains, on platforms, in station restaurants, encountering refugees and Nazis, good people and bad.

László Bagossy's production, featuring Manuel Krstanovic in the title role, promises an evening of literary and theatrical discovery.
