The Olchis and the Spell of the Magician
Freilichtbühne Billerbeck e.V., Germany
Family show 2026
The Olchis are a very special family: poisonous green, with hair as stiff as wire, hearing horns on their heads and big knobbly noses. They live on the great rubbish dump in the little town of Schmuddelfing, love stench, eat shoe soles, bathe in mud - and are well-liked by their neighbours because they keep the town clean. Flies, rats and toads are their constant companions, and every now and then the seven-strong family takes off on their dragon Feuerstuhl.
Olchi life would be gloriously putrid if only the local cultural association weren't planning to build a concert hall - right where the rubbish dump stands. The Olchis have to go, and fast. When the circus comes to town, they too are invited to the show. Acrobats, tightrope walkers, clowns, even a llama - but what fascinates them most is the magician Spirelli. He commands hypnosis like no one else and picks Grandma Olchi as his assistant. In a flash she is in a pair of "jumping trousers", obediently following his instructions - she even eats a fresh onion, which gives her colourful blotches all over her body, because fresh food is poisonous to Olchis. The rest of the family is alarmed and wants to free Grandma from the clutches of the shady magician.
Help arrives in the form of Professor Brausewein, a friendly inventor from Gammelsberg who has developed a special anti-hypnosis spray. Can the Olchis rescue their grandma, stop the concert hall from being built, and solve the theft of a golden statue along the way?
The show fills the large open-air stage with wit, Olchi-style expletives and rocky songs with choreography. - "The Olchis and the Spell of the Magician" based on the books by Erhard Dietl, © performance rights: Bühnenverlag Weitendorf, Hamburg.
