Eight Seasons
Johanneskirche am Feuersee Stuttgart, Germany

Hear just the opening bars of a summer thunderstorm and your imagination ignites. The beginning of the Presto from Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" of 1725 is something like the "Tatatataa" of the Baroque - it breaks every popularity record and hits like an electric shock every time. Equally electrifying are Astor Piazzolla's "Four Seasons from Buenos Aires," the father of Tango Nuevo, who performed them with his octet (two bandoneons, two violins, piano, cello, electric guitar, and double bass) from the late 1960s onward. "Las cuatro estaciones porteñas" greet Vivaldi from the southern hemisphere in tango rhythm, with virtuosic effects and hints of Baroque, contemporary music, and jazz. Within just a few bars, they transport us into the oppressive heat of an Argentine summer, the farewell mood of autumn, the tango nights of winter, and the awakening Buenos Aires of spring.
For this stellar evening, special soloists are guests. As part of the TONALi project, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and two young violin talents present "Eight Seasons" for strings alone! The concert is part of the TONALi tour, in which three schools together with young violinists organize innovative concerts at their schools. And at this stellar evening as the grand finale, the young musicians are involved in planning, marketing, event management, and moderation.
