The Creation - Joseph Haydn - In the Beginning God Created Heaven and Earth
Basilika St. Ulrich und Afra, Augsburg, Germany
10 €
In the year marking the 800th anniversary of Saint Francis of Assisi's death, the Church worldwide celebrates a special Franciscan Year. For this occasion, the Basilica Choir of St. Ulrich and Afra presents one of the most significant works of sacred music: Joseph Haydn's monumental oratorio "The Creation".
With overwhelming sound, deep spirituality, and great musical expressiveness, Haydn depicts the creation of the world - from chaos to the completion of creation. Light, sky, earth, plants, animals, and finally humanity emerge in impressive musical images that have lost none of their fascination to this day.
The solo parts are sung by Cathrin Lange (soprano), Alfons Brandl (tenor), and Matthias Lika (bass). The Basilica Choir of St. Ulrich and Afra performs together with the Bavarian Chamber Philharmonic and soloists under the direction of Peter Bader.
The performance invites listeners to rediscover the beauty and dignity of creation - in the spirit of Saint Francis, whose profound connection with nature and all creatures continues to move hearts today.
