Die Schöpfung - Joseph Haydn - In the Beginning God Created Heaven and Earth

Marking the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi, the Basilikachor St. Ulrich und Afra performs Joseph Haydn's oratorio "Die Schöpfung" - one of the great masterworks of sacred music. The concert is part of the worldwide Franciscan Year celebrated by the Church on this occasion.

Haydn traces the creation of the world from primordial chaos to completion: light, sky, earth, plants, animals and finally humankind take shape in musical tableaux that bring the text of Genesis vividly to life.

The solo parts are sung by Cathrin Lange (soprano), Alfons Brandl (tenor) and Matthias Lika (bass). The Basilikachor St. Ulrich und Afra performs alongside the Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie, conducted by Peter Bader.

The concert takes place on Saturday, 26 September 2026, at 19:30 in the Basilika St. Ulrich und Afra in Augsburg.
