The new season opens with Albrecht Mayer, a native of Bamberg who joined the Bamberger Symphoniker as principal oboist in 1990 before moving to the same role with the Berliner Philharmoniker in 1992. He has built a reputation as both a chamber musician and an orchestral player. His CD Lieder ohne Worte and the album New Seasons even crossed over into the German pop charts.

More than 15 years ago, Mayer founded his "Ensemble New Seasons" to pursue his musical ideas with a hand-picked group of players. He also works as an arranger, broadening the oboe's repertoire from the Baroque era through to Romanticism.
