The new season opens with world-class oboist Albrecht Mayer, a Bamberg native who launched his remarkable career in 1990 as principal oboist of the Bamberger Symphoniker before moving to the same position with the Berliner Philharmoniker in 1992. He has left a lasting mark in both orchestral and chamber music, and Bamberg audiences have long embraced him as a brilliant performer and engaging personality.

For many years Albrecht Mayer has tirelessly explored the full range of music from the Baroque era through to Romanticism. As an arranger he also opens up new sonic territory for the oboe. His CD Lieder ohne Worte and the album New Seasons even broke into the German pop charts. To realise his musical vision to the fullest, he founded his own "Ensemble New Seasons" - staffed with outstanding musicians - more than 15 years ago.
