Law, the sense of justice, and the reality of court rulings. What gets decided in German courtrooms every day is gripping for some and deeply unsettling for others. The new hr-iNFO podcast "Verurteilt!" takes a closer look behind the scenes of the justice system.
How does the German legal system actually work? Why do precise legal paragraphs need to stand opposite gut feelings about right and wrong in a courtroom? Court reporter Heike Borufka from Hessischer Rundfunk (hr) and Frankfurt-based podcaster Basti Red discuss real criminal cases, real verdicts, real life, and the German judiciary - live on stage. In each episode, the two examine a specific court case and talk through the verdict, bringing information, empathy, and context. Along the way they tackle key questions: how do prosecutions come about? How are penalty orders and sentences handed down? How do judges and prosecutors stay independent from public opinion? The conversation reveals how our legal system really works.
