A comedy by Peter Quilter, translated by Nathalie Hallervorden
Their marriage has failed, but neither Julia nor Thomas wants the single life either. So they take the adventurous step of seeking a new partner in their later years - a journey that demands courage, perseverance, patience, and plenty of optimism. Carefully planned as a "safety net" for each other, Julia and Thomas decide to have their first dates at the same restaurant - with equally serious consequences for their potential partners and for the audience's funny bones. While Julia finds no chemistry with her self-absorbed date, Thomas's companion launches into her unfulfilled desire for children and her expertise on performance-enhancing foods, thoroughly derailing the evening. Their subsequent attempts to navigate the maze of dating apps and neighbourly matchmaking fail because Julia and Thomas keep meeting at the wrong moment. It turns out that parting amicably and remaining friends is not so easy - and at least being two is less lonely.
Peter Quilter once again demonstrates his considerable comedic talent, crafting a fast-paced farce for seasoned actors. With great sensitivity, he explores the complexities of courtship after fifty without turning his divorced characters into victims. Whether happily married, separated, in a committed relationship, or single - this play speaks to everyone and is guaranteed to move you to tears of laughter.
