A comedy based on Ödön von Horváth

"Where a man is born, that is where he belongs!" - with these words, the border guards send the protagonist Ferdinand Havlicek onto the bridge over the border river.

A shift in the border has placed his birthplace in a different country. But that country won't let him in either - he lacks citizenship. So he has no choice but to remain in a legal no-man's-land: on the bridge spanning the border river.

An absurd and bitterly sharp comedy about the bureaucracy of nationalism unfolds, searching for its happy ending.

Author Ödön von Horváth drew on his own experience in this work, having been forced to leave his country in 1933.
