Rossini in Wildbad: Occasione - The Thieving Opportunity 4
Königliches Kurtheater Bad Wildbad, Germany
The opera opens with a dramatic thunderstorm scene in an inn, evoking the finale of Don Giovanni: Parmenione dines calmly while his anxious servant Martino suffers. Parmenione is a character of contradictions - constantly reinventing himself, lying, scheming, manipulating, and tormenting his servant. When Alberto arrives seeking shelter from the rain on his way to meet his unknown bride, Parmenione switches their suitcases. A mad tale unfolds. Parmenione discovers a portrait of a young woman and Alberto's passport, and decides to steal his identity. He sets off in search of the supposed bride. But she has her own plans and has no intention of marrying any predetermined groom. Rossini's brilliant comedy about "alternative facts" was filmed at the Kurtheater for NAXOS in 2017 and now returns with a new cast. The conductor is once again Music Director Antonino Fogliani, whose spirited musical precision suits this absurd comedy of errors perfectly.
The purchase of the programme booklet counts as admission to the opera introduction one hour before the performance in the Forum König-Karls-Bad.
