Kammerchor Stuttgart — Johann-Rist-Forum, Wedel

Frieder Bernius and the Kammerchor Stuttgart return to Wedel to close the Wedeler Musiktage. Their first a cappella concert here in 2023 drew attention well beyond the city. Having this ensemble bring the festival to a close on German Unity Day makes the occasion all the more memorable. The Kammerchor Stuttgart has been one of the defining ensembles of the international choral world for decades.

Under the title Kammerchor Stuttgart "a Cappella", Frieder Bernius and his singers present a programme for unaccompanied voices that brings together baroque motets, Nystedt's Immortal Bach, and Mendelssohn's Te Deum.

Double-choir motets by Johann Sebastian Bach and Gottfried August Homilius set sound against sound, revealing how inventively baroque vocal music plays with contrast, density, and layered texture. Knut Nystedt's Immortal Bach takes up that thread and translates Bach into a contemporary language of sustained, floating sound, where memory and immediate listening merge. Mendelssohn's Te Deum then turns the gaze toward the 19th century and brings the evening to a festive close.

With an ensemble of international standing and a programme spanning baroque to the present day, the Wedeler Musiktage end on a compelling note.
