The Story of Jazz Vol. 11 - "Ella!" - Ella Fitzgerald, the Queen of Jazz

The Kulturinstitut presents the latest instalment of the popular concert series "The Story of Jazz", conceived by saxophonist Alexander Hartmann. This edition puts the legendary Ella Fitzgerald in the spotlight. Known as the "First Lady of Song" and the "Queen of Jazz", she captivated audiences with her flawless intonation and extraordinary scat singing.

Despite a difficult childhood, her breakthrough came in 1934 at the Apollo Theater talent contest in New York. Over a career spanning more than 50 years, she recorded over 200 albums, won 14 Grammy Awards, and collaborated with giants such as Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington.

Her musical legacy stretches from swing and bebop far beyond the boundaries of jazz.
