The LVR-Archivberatungs- und Fortbildungszentrum offers students from Rhineland universities a hands-on introduction to archives "ad fontes" - guided by professional archivists into the workings of the archival world, with direct access to historical documents and files. An introductory day covers career paths and professional profiles, the legal framework of archival work, and a palaeography exercise. This is followed by a seminar day with workshops on key archival tasks.

A third seminar day at the start of the winter semester gives students the chance to share experiences from their archive internships.

The LVR Kulturzentrum Abtei Brauweiler is a former Benedictine abbey in Pulheim, near Cologne, whose origins date back to the 11th century. The Romanesque monastery complex - one of the best-preserved in the Rhineland - now serves as a cultural centre run by the Landschaftsverband Rheinland (LVR). Concerts, exhibitions and public events take place in the historic rooms and courtyard throughout the year.
