Elijah: a wrathful prophet riddled with doubt, a zealot who calls for killing, yet a man capable of compassion and kindness. The title character of Felix Mendelssohn's oratorio "Elijah" is no rigid plaster saint but a figure of flesh and blood. Mendelssohn's music conjures storms, earthquakes, floods and fire with elemental force - while never losing sight of the moments of consolation. This is what made "Elijah" the most beloved oratorio of the 19th century.

The members of the SanktNikolaiChor Kiel perform alongside the Kantorei St. Johannis Lüneburg (prepared by KMD Dr. Ulf Wellner), conducted by KMD Volkmar Zehner. The solo roles are taken by Hanna Zumsande (soprano), Anna-Maria Torkel (alto), Stephan Scherpe (tenor) and Henryk Böhm (bass). Ensemble Schirokko from Hamburg accompanies on period instruments from Mendelssohn's era.
