The darmstadtium is Darmstadt's main convention and event centre, opened in 2007. Designed by the architectural firm Hascher Jehle, the building seats up to 1,800 people in its main hall and regularly hosts congresses, trade fairs, concerts and large corporate events. Its name references element 110 of the periodic table, discovered at the nearby GSI Helmholtz Centre.
