Festung Rosenberg is one of the best-preserved Renaissance fortresses in Germany, rising above the Franconian town of Kronach. Built from the 13th century onwards and expanded over several centuries, it never fell to an enemy - a rare distinction. Today it houses the Franconian Gallery, a branch of the Bavarian State Painting Collections, and hosts open-air concerts, theatre performances and cultural festivals in its historic courtyards.
