About

Miep Gies (1909–2010) was an Austrian-born Dutch woman who hid Anne Frank and her family in Amsterdam during World War II. After the group's arrest, she rescued Anne's diary and after the war handed it to Otto Frank for publication. In 1996, the Dutch queen awarded her a knighthood in recognition of her courage.
