Sergei Prokofiev (1891–1953) was a Russian composer, pianist and conductor, one of the most significant musical figures of the 20th century. He wrote operas, ballets, symphonies and film scores. His symphonic fairy tale Peter and the Wolf (1936) for narrator and orchestra is among the most frequently performed works of classical music for children.
