Peter and the Wolf
Zdrojowy Teatr Animacji w Jeleniej Górze, Jelenia Góra
Premiere of "Peter and the Wolf" directed by Libor Štumpf – an actor, director, and author of children's theatre plays, founder of the "Ahoy" theatre in the Czech town of Chrudim. Štumpf is an expert and promoter of Czech puppet theatre traditions, founder of the only "theatre on wheels" in the Czech Republic that performs puppet shows, and owner of a private black theatre museum in Chrudim.
"Peter and the Wolf" by Sergei Prokofiev was created in 1936 as a "symphonic tale for children with narrator and large symphony orchestra". The work has received countless orchestral performances as well as ballet and theatrical adaptations. Its most famous adaptation is the 2006 animated film produced by Se-Ma-For studio in co-production with British and Norwegian partners, which won an Academy Award in 2008.
The performance by the Source Theatre of Animation uses the technique of black theatre – a popular Czech method of puppet theatre in which appropriate stage lighting hides the puppeteers from the audience.
The play is intended for preschool and early school-age children.
