RED PETER. Will an Ape Save the World? // House of Cropp + VUJO — Working Stage in Poznań, Poznań
Description was written before the event

"Red Peter. Will an Ape Save the World?" is a performance by House of Cropp + VUJO inspired by Franz Kafka's short story A Report to an Academy. Red Peter - the name the protagonist receives at his first encounter with humans - becomes the starting point for questions about the cost of daily conformity to "human" standards: careful observation, role-playing, repeating what we have registered as the norm.

The creators build a collective experience of de-evolution - a return to the ape as a gesture of liberation from desires and ambitions imposed by civilization. The performative act of naming the chimpanzee and his motivation to become a human man evoke the birth of a drag king: like Red Peter, a drag king learns to imitate and as a result convincingly perform humanity. The performance weaves together drag, queer experience, and laughter - scratching and slipping on a banana peel.
