Venus in Fur David Ives
asz.teatr Theatre in Poznań, Poland
Director Thomas is finishing auditions for the production - discouraged by the level of candidates, he prepares to leave. In the doorway, he is stopped by Wanda, who arrives significantly late. From that moment, a perverse game unfolds between them, playing with cultural figures of masculinity and femininity, enacted in a space of power and submission.
"Venus in Fur" is an adaptation of David Ives' play, based on a 19th-century novella by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch. In 1869, Sacher-Masoch entered into an agreement with Baroness Fanny von Pistor - for six months he was her slave. The term "masochism" derives from his name. The text combines humor, surprising dialogue, and sharply drawn characters with a broad field for interpretation.
