Daniel Ciobanu

Second prize winner and audience award recipient at the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition in Tel Aviv (2017). In the past season, he returned to the Concertgebouw with a solo recital, performed recitals in Germany, and concertized with the Dresden Staatskapelle, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, and Orquesta da Galicia. Since the 2020/2021 season, he has been the first artist-in-residence in the history of the George Enescu Philharmonic in Bucharest; the inaugural residency season included concerts under the direction of Cristian Măcelaru and Gabriel Bebeselea.

In September 2020, Ciobanu released his first solo album for Accentus Records, featuring works by Prokofiev, Debussy, Liszt, and Enescu. The album received outstanding reviews – Deutschlandfunk wrote: "With this debut album, Daniel Ciobanu presents himself as an intelligent and exceptionally emotional artist. Closer examination reveals a wise conception and careful consideration of all elements. The pianist's musical narrative absolutely captivates attention, and nothing stands in the way of his technical abilities. With Daniel Ciobanu, music becomes an experience."

In 2017, Ciobanu founded the Neamt Music Festival in his native city of Piatra Neamț in Romania. The week-long festival takes place annually in the Carpathians and encompasses not only classical programmes but also jazz, video mapping, painting, and dance. In 2015, he won the Grand Prize, Audience Award, and Orchestra Award at the Moroccan Philharmonic International Piano Competition – the first pianist in the competition's history to receive all special awards and be unanimously selected by the jury for the main prize.
