Cinema in the Forest: Sherlock Jr. (1924) and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)

The Teatr Leśny season finale features two evenings of silent films accompanied by live music.

A comedy packed with gags and daring stunts. Two men compete for a girl's affection - a villain steals her father's watch, and the projectionist (Buster Keaton) is accused of the theft. Dejected, the hero returns to work at the cinema and falls asleep while operating the projector. In his dream, his life becomes a film: he brings all his friends into it and plays Sherlock Holmes Jr., searching for stolen pearls.

A traveling hypnotist arrives in a provincial town, with his medium - the somnambulist Cesare - as the main attraction of a carnival show. Soon people begin to disappear. Francis, a friend of one of the victims, uncovers a dark secret: the hypnotist is the reincarnation of the murderous Dr. Caligari, who killed using his medium. The trail leads Francis to a psychiatric asylum.

Live music for both films will be performed by the Ludwik Sarski Orchestra - a collective founded by multi-instrumentalists and composers Damian Szymczak and Piotr Tomala. Their work blends early jazz, ragtime, tango, swing, and klezmer. The orchestra performs throughout Poland and abroad, and their repertoire includes original scores for silent films by directors such as Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and Roman Polanski.
