Cinema in the Forest: The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari (1920) — Teatr Leśny w Gdańsku, Gdańsk

The closing of the season at Forest Theatre features two screenings of silent films with live music. On 27 September 2026 at 20:00, "The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari" (1920) directed by Robert Wiene will be shown.

A wandering hypnotist arrives in a provincial town. His medium, the somnambulist Cesare, is the main attraction of a carnival show. When people in the town begin to disappear, Francis - a friend of one of the victims - uncovers a dark secret: the hypnotist is the reincarnation of the murderous Doctor Caligari, who killed through his medium. The trail leads Francis to a psychiatric asylum.

Live music will be performed by Ludwik Sarski's Orchestra - a collective founded by multi-instrumentalists and composers Damian Szymczak and Piotr Tomala. The orchestra's repertoire includes early jazz, ragtime, tango, swing and klezmer; the musicians have created live scores for silent films by directors such as Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Roman Polanski.

Single-day ticket: 20 PLN. A season pass for all Forest Theatre events in 2026 is also available (210 PLN, limited quantity, sales until end of June 2026) - includes four days of Gdańsk Jazz Nights concerts, two PsychoDaily series concerts, three Alternative Forest series concerts and both silent cinema screenings.
