The evening brings together four Bach works in which dialogue between soloists lies at the heart - not competition or display, but mutual listening and response. Hence the title: Double Bach.
The Concerto in D minor for Two Violins BWV 1043 ranks among the most frequently performed violin concertos in history; its power lies in the tension built between the solo parts. The Concerto in C major for Two Harpsichords BWV 1061.2 grows from a chamber duet to which Bach likely added the orchestral part only later - the intimate relationship between the solo instruments gives it a distinctive character. The Sinfonia from the Cantata Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis BWV 21, composed in the early period of the composer's work, stands out for its subtle orchestration. The Concerto in C minor for Oboe and Violin BWV 1060R holds a special story behind the letter R: the original score has not survived, and the modern version was reconstructed from a later concerto for two harpsichords.
The Wrocław Baroque Orchestra NFM is one of Poland's leading ensembles of early music, working under the artistic direction of Jaroslav Thiel. The harpsichord parts will be performed by Aleksandra Rupocińska and Ewa Mrowca.
