20 Years of Hermann Frommhold

An evening dedicated to Hermann Frommhold, who has served as chairman of the Society of Friends of Castle Concerts Bad Krozingen for the past 20 years.

The programme features Franz Schubert's Piano Trio in B-flat major D 28, which remained incomplete in one movement, and Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Trios in D major op. 70 No. 1 "Ghost Trio" and E-flat major op. 70 No. 2. The evening opens with Schubert's trio: the fifteen-year-old composer tackles for the first time the combination of piano with strings.

Both Beethoven trios were composed while he was simultaneously working on his Symphonies No. 5 and 6 - he was staying at the estate of Countess Marie Erdödy in Floridsdorf at the time. He dedicated these works to her in gratitude for her hospitality; the premiere took place in the winter of 1808 with the composer at the piano in her home.
