PREMIERE: Polish Radio Jazz Studio & Ole Morten Vågan

On 24 July, the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio in Warsaw will host the premiere concert of Polish Radio Jazz Studio & Ole Morten Vågan. The Norwegian composer and double bassist will appear as guest artistic director of the orchestra, presenting an entirely original repertoire written specifically for this ensemble - as the first foreign artist in the history of PRJS.

Ole Morten Vågan spent eight years as artistic director of Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, with which he performed and recorded, including with Joshua Redman, Bill Frisell, Pat Metheny and Jason Moran. Polish audiences know him primarily as a long-time collaborator with Maciej Obara's ensemble, and for his educational work with Intl Jazz Platform in Łódź. His recordings have been released on the Clean Feed and ECM labels.

Polish Radio Jazz Studio is an orchestra founded in 1968 by Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski, reactivated since February 2023 by journalists of Polish Radio Programme 2 with the support of composer and conductor Nikola Kołodziejczyk - artistic director of the big band's new incarnation. Since its reactivation, the orchestra has performed at the NOSPR Concert Hall in Katowice, Nasjonal jazzscene in Oslo, Cavita Hall in Bielsko-Biała, Wytwórnia Club in Łódź and the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio in Warsaw. The project is realized by the Wytwórnia Foundation in collaboration with Polish Radio.
