Night of Pins

Four ordinary boys, a ruthless sex education teacher at a Jesuit boys' school, and Lima in the 1990s torn by civil war. People disappear here every day - it's no wonder that an unfortunate joke that escalated into a conflict between the boys and spiraled out of their control could pass unnoticed like a pin in the dust of Lima's streets.

Twenty years later, Manu, Beto, Carlos, and Moco reunite at their class reunion. By a twist of fate, none of them ever faced consequences for what they did. Returning to the sins of youth won't be easy - why do they come back, what are they running from, and what do they risk by revealing their secret?

Full of dark humor, this thriller by Santiago Roncagliola - one of the most popular contemporary Peruvian writers - adapted and directed by Piotr Pacześniak raises questions about freedom of choice and moral responsibility. To what extent are our actions shaped by our place and family, and to what extent are they our own decisions? When we try to justify every wrongdoing by circumstances, aren't we dangerously approaching a relativism that makes it impossible to distinguish good from evil?
