He graduated from the Higher School of Church Music in Rottenburg (1990), the Higher School of Music in Frankfurt am Main, and the Higher School of Music in Würzburg. At age 22, he became principal organist and choirmaster of the Ludwigsburg Deanery, based in Bietigheim, where he continues his concert activities today - both organ recitals and cantata-oratorio concerts. He has performed in Paris, London, Berlin, Dresden, Cologne, Stuttgart, Bamberg, Erfurt, Basel, Edinburgh, and Merano, among other cities. His repertoire features works by J.S. Bach and French and German Romantic composers; he is also known for his virtuosic organ improvisations.

The instrument on which Benkö will perform is a mechanical organ built in 1987 by the Eule company - a 60-voice instrument located in the church choir.
