I Promise, I Promise You… or a Fairy Tale for Adults Only — Teatr Nowe Formy, Warsaw

He promised to love her completely. He started with her backside.

"I Promise, I Promise You… or a Fairy Tale for Adults Only" is an original remix of texts by Hanoch Levin - "Jacobi and Leidenthal", "The Tailor" and others - directed by Rafal Pyka. Itamar meets Ruth and falls in love at first sight. Well, slightly lower. He is captivated by her "Big Touches" - something more than the main character's buttocks: an object of fantasy, a symbol of fulfillment, and everything we want to possess in another person before we truly know them. Ruth sees in Itamar a chance for great love, security, and an end to loneliness. Both make promises - the problem is that each promises something completely different.

It begins with flirtation, bold dialogue, dance, and original songs. It is sensual, amusing, and somewhat sexy. The performance grapples with desire and fantasy, enchantment that is not love, sexuality, the dynamics of dominance and submission, fear of rejection - and the fact that "forever" sounds most beautiful at the beginning.

In this performance, the audience is part of the scenography: two rows sit facing each other, and Itamar and Ruth play between them like on a runway. You watch the actors, but at the same time you see the reactions of people on the other side - and they see yours. The performance contains elements of BDSM aesthetics and scenes of psychological and emotional violence. After each show, there is a meeting with the creators and actors.

The performance is rated 9.66 out of 10 based on 187 audience votes.
