Maiden Vows

"Maiden Vows" by Aleksander Fredro is a comedy written in 1832, with love as its central theme - the driving force of the plot and the root of all its dramatic twists. The heroines, despite their solemn vows, cannot resist feelings that prove stronger than any resolution. Klara and Aniela, the brash Gustaw and the sentimental Albin become entangled in comic intrigues, only to make happy choices after many unexpected turns.

Fredro draws on the motif of the "love strike" already known from Aristophanes' "Lysistrata", which also appears in 17th-century Polish satirical literature - in "Sejm panieński". Running time: 1h 30 min.
