Thematic Walk: Lubicz - Extraordinary Stories from a Town Divided by the Partition Border — Contemporary Art Centre "Znaki Czasu" in Toruń, Toruń

For generations, Lubicz captivated the imagination of lithographers, journalists, tourists, and photographers as a border town. 150 years ago, visitors from Prussia came here to catch a glimpse of Russia and returned with a postcard stamped in Cyrillic - proof of reaching the edge of the civilized world.

The walk leads from mill to mill, from granary to granary. Along the way, new stories emerge: about the synagogue, the church, the general who erected border posts here, about gunfire and Saint John of Nepomuk watching over it all with timeless patience. The whole experience is seasoned with elements of cunning, smuggling, and wit drawn from old postcards and newspaper accounts.
