Anna Maria Kaufmann, born October 15, 1964 in Edmonton, Alberta, is a Canadian-German soprano who trained at the Robert Schumann Music Institute in Düsseldorf under Erika Köth and Claire Watson. Her breakthrough came in 1990 with the Hamburg production of "Das Phantom der Oper", where she played Christine Daaé opposite Peter Hofmann in over 500 performances - the cast recording became the best-selling German musical album of all time. Since then she has built a wide-ranging career spanning opera, operetta, musical theatre and crossover concerts, performing at venues including the Metropolitan Opera New York and the Volksoper Wien.
