The Bamberger Symphoniker (Bavarian State Philharmonic) is a German symphony orchestra based in Bamberg, founded in 1946 by musicians - many of them former members of the German Philharmonic Orchestra Prague - who had been displaced after World War II. Since 2004 it holds the title of Bavarian State Philharmonic, and since 2016 it has been led by Czech conductor Jakub Hrůša. With over 7,500 concerts across 64 countries, it is one of the most widely travelled orchestras in the world, known for its characteristically dark, warm sound whose lineage traces back through Prague to Mahler and Mozart.
